About us

Who we are

Agrawal Samaj Orlando brings together families of the Agrawal (also spelled Agarwal or Aggarwal) community who live in Central Florida. Many of us came here for work, study or family; together we keep alive the values, festivals and friendships we grew up with.

Founded in 2023, we are run entirely by volunteers, with a board that meets every month to plan the year. Membership is free.

Our mission is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community that celebrates and promotes Agrawal culture, heritage, and values. We aim to create a platform where individuals of Agrawal origin can come together to connect, engage, and flourish.

  • Sanskriti, cultureFestivals, pujas and programs that keep our traditions alive.
  • Sangathan, unityA trusted network of families who support one another.
  • Seva, serviceGiving back to Central Florida through food drives, health camps and charity.
  • Sanskar, values for our youthHelping children born here stay connected to their roots.

Our heritage

Descendants of Maharaja Agrasen

Agrawals trace their lineage to Maharaja Agrasen, the king who founded Agroha, a city of traders near present-day Hisar in Haryana. The name Agrawal means the people of Agroha. Our kuldevi is Mahalakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.

Ahimsa

Maharaja Agrasen is remembered for refusing animal sacrifice in his yajnas. Compassion and non-violence remain central to Agrawal life.

Equality

Agroha is remembered as a city where every family stood on equal footing and no one was left without a home or a livelihood.

Enterprise

Trade, industry and honest commerce are part of our identity, from the merchants of Agroha to founders and professionals today.

Charity

Dharamshalas, schools, hospitals and gaushalas built by Agrawal families continue the tradition of sharing prosperity.

Ek eent, ek rupaya: one brick, one coin

As the story is told, when a new family settled in Agroha, every household gave it one brick and one coin. The bricks built a home and the coins started a business, so each newcomer began as an equal. We try to keep that spirit here: when a new Agrawal family moves to Central Florida, we want them to feel welcomed from day one.

The 18 gotras

Tradition holds that Maharaja Agrasen's descendants form 18 gotras. This list was ratified by the Akhil Bhartiya Agrawal Sammelan in 1983; regional spellings vary.
